PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to work on Saturday night, Jason Statler and his DF Rios Motorsports team took on the King of the West Series at the Placerville Speedway where Statler would finish in the seventh spot.
“Seventh is nothing to do back flips over, but in what was only our third race of the year, I think we are really starting to figure this car out and give it what it wants,” Jason Statler said.
Timing the DF Rios Motorsports/Amerikote/Riley Collins Auto No. 00 in 12th fastest, which put him on the front row of his heat race. In a spirited battle with Willie Croft for the top spot, Statler would finish in the second spot which put him out of a Dash spot, and starting in the sixth row of the 30-lap A Main event.
On a track that was tricky, but in good shape after Friday storms rolled through the area, Statler was able to slowly work his way into the Top-10. When the race’s first caution flew on the 16th lap, Statler ran in the 10th spot, but was able to take advantage of the restart.
Working into the eighth spot, Statler would battle with Cory Eliason and Shane Golobic for position as he was able to move into the seventh spot during the race’s waning laps.
A final restart with two laps to go would see Statler give Golobic a challenge for sixth, but he would be unable to pull of the pass as he finished in the seventh spot.
“I made a mistake in our heat race that turned out to cost us a Dash spot, and that is huge with this format,” Statler said. “The guys are continuing to work hard and think out of the box to get a good car under me, and I am looking forward to two nights of action this weekend in Chico, CA.
